CS373 Spring 2022: Luca Santos

  1. What did you do this past week?
I spent most of this week working towards gathering up documents and filling out forms to apply for my Post Completion OPT so that I am able to start work after graduation. I also devoted some time to working on Phase 4 and going over some details for my Ethics group project.
  2. What’s in your way?
I am a tiny bit anxious about getting ready for graduation and filling all the required documents for receiving my work authorization. Every step is extremely bureaucratic and scary.
  3. What will you do next week?
Work on finishing Phase 4 with my group, send my Post OPT request to the ISSS, and finish up some work for Symbolic Programming.
  4. What did you think of Paper 13. What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?
I had read this paper before and it is extremely disheartening to still see such horrible instances of power abuse, racism, and sexism still occurring in such a “modern” field like CS.
  5. What was your experience of subqueries and refactoring.? (this question will vary, week to week)
I have very little experience with SQL so all of these were extremely interesting and insightful.
  6. What made you happy this week?
Graduation is only a month away!
  7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
The ISSS is the UT body that takes care of most things related to international students. If you are not a citizen and is about to start working here in the US after graduation make sure to start your post OPT application right now! This is an extremely bureaucratic, expensive, and lengthy process so the earlier you are able to start the better. Start by looking here!
