CS373 Spring 2022: Luca Santos

  1. What did you do this past week?
I mostly kept working towards gathering up the documents for my Post OPT request as well as devoting some amount of work towards Phase 4, and my Ethics class presentation.
  2. What’s in your way?
I lost contact with a friend that was very close to me this week. Everything happened towards the end of the week so my weekend has also been a little odd and quiet.
  3. What will you do next week?
Finish Phase 4, send out my work authorization request to the USCIS, work on my last Symbolic Programming assignment, and give my final presentation for Behavioral Ethics. I also hope to be able to organize my apartment to accommodate my family who will be arriving soon for graduation.
  4. What did you think of Paper #14: The New Methodology?
The paper was a little old so I was skeptical on some of the information they covered. Overall it was definitely insightful. Towards the beginning it seemed to suggest that a common industry methodology for software development is to code and debug instead of designing, planning, executing and debugging. That just seems to be a completely wrong assumption that goes against pretty much most of what contemporary OOD advises.
  5. What was your experience of refactoring.? (this question will vary, week to week)
Refactoring is definitely something that I had to do a lot since the start of OS. It is nice to see some structured examples of how it can be done in a class setting. Assigning names to certain restructuring patterns will be helpful when working in industry.
  6. What made you happy this week?
With graduation coming around my family will start arriving next week!
  7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
If you are graduating this semester it is not too late to buy your gown, cap and chord from the Co-Op despite all the emails we have been receiving from the Office of the Registrar! It is pretty much all you need if you are planning on participating in the College wide or University wide ceremony.
